Bay Area rapper 8BitJ released his fourth solo album Piranha on July 4, 2026, and from the first listen, it’s clear this one is different.
Different in scope. Different in depth. Different in the way it hits.
“I wanted to make my most personal album to date,” 8BitJ says. “I think I’ve done that.”
Coming from an artist known for stripping away every facade and laying himself bare on the mic, that’s not a small claim. It’s a promise he delivered on.
Piranha began taking shape a year ago, born out of a period of intense self-reflection. The result is an album that looks outward as much as inward, not just 8BitJ’s personal story, but the environments that shaped him, the forces beyond his control, and a hard-earned emotional maturity that elevates the project above anything he’s done before.
Sonically, the album represents a deliberate tone shift from his last project. More somber, more layered, more expansive. Production credits include Kronos The Chef, Bailey Daniel, Stoic Beats, and more, building a sonic landscape that matches the album’s emotional weight beat for beat.
8BitJ describes Piranha as a spiritual successor to Dreamland, his debut, a project he holds in the highest regard. “I truly think this is my best project to date,” he says, “and I really look forward to everybody hearing it.”
